Man Who’s Tried 182 Drugs Says ‘Every Day Spice’ Is the Most Dangerous

Dominic Milton Trott, a seemingly healthy 67-year-old from England, lives an unusually disciplined life. A former IT worker, he follows a vegetarian diet, swims daily, and rarely drinks alcohol. Yet in retirement, Dominic has chosen an unconventional path: trying as many drugs as possible—not for thrills, but to write a harm reduction guide aimed at helping others use substances as safely as possible.

Testing: Dominic Milton Trott has tried 182 substances, but says a common household spice was the worst

Over the past 17 years, Dominic has experimented with 182 substances, from crack cocaine and heroin to crystal meth. But the one drug that terrified him most is an everyday kitchen staple: nutmeg. In large quantities, the spice can act as a psychoactive, producing dangerously hallucinogenic effects.

“I was young and stupid,” Dominic told the Daily Mail. “I read somewhere—or someone told me—you could get high from nutmeg. I made a tea without any safety protocols… I didn’t know what to expect.” Initially, he felt nothing. But hours later, the experience turned nightmarish.

“At 2 a.m., I realized I was in full delirium,” he recalled. “The room was spinning, colors were intense, everything was warping. I needed to go to the toilet but couldn’t stand, so I crawled across the floor, feeling like my hands were sinking into the floorboards. I couldn’t urinate—nutmeg stops you from going.”

He described the ordeal as “the worst alcohol hangover, multiplied by 10,” complete with hallucinations, stomach pain, headaches, and the overwhelming fear that he might die. Dominic emphasized he was incredibly lucky and warned anyone tempted to try nutmeg to stay far away. “It’s not a high, it’s delirium—a state close to death. It’s dystopian, frightening, and dangerous. Nutmeg is a poison.”

Research: Dominic has spent the last 17 years ingesting both legal and illegal drugs for his book the Drug Users Bible

Dominic also warns against underestimating alcohol. After reviewing medical studies for his book, he considers it “one of the most toxic and addictive drugs there is,” ranking it alongside heroin and crystal meth in harm.

This research formed the backbone of The Drug Users Bible, a guide Dominic began writing in 2008 in response to rising drug fatalities. He meticulously documented onset times, doses, routes of administration, and duration for each substance, aiming to provide a scientific resource to help others make informed choices.

His drug explorations have taken him to 50 countries, including India, Colombia, Jamaica, the Netherlands, and Peru, often allowing him to consume substances legally. But the adventure has come at a cost: he estimates $270,000–$405,000 spent on travel and experimentation. Over nearly two decades, Dominic has tried everything from cannabis, LSD, and magic mushrooms to cocaine, ecstasy, Xanax, crystal meth, and heroin.

Scary: Dominic said the scariest after effects of a drug were those after consuming the spice nutmeg

Understandably, his wife of 46 years, Christine, has never supported his “adventures.” “What is wrong with you?” she asked when he first revealed his plans. Dominic laughs, noting that people have fixed ideas about who takes drugs and how they behave—but he defies all expectations. Despite the risks, Christine can at least rest easy knowing Dominic has never been hospitalized.
